Eligibility Requirements for BioAccel™ Commercialization Programs Support
- Technology must be within the Life Sciences
- Project typically must require <12 months of work to demonstrate commercial potential
- Project must require <$300k in funding to complete the project (BioAccel™ may be able to participate with others to collectively provide larger funding amounts, on a case by case basis).
- Applicant and/or applicant's institution must have ownership of any intellectual property associated with the project
- BioAccel™ Commercialization Program-supported companies must reside in specific geographic Enterprise Zones of Arizona or be willing to locate a significant portion of the funded business to these Zones
- If it is not possible to locate or relocate to one of these Zones, the entrepreneur must describe the reasons for that, as well as what attempts will be made to benefit one or more of these Zones (hire employees from these zones, etc). http://www.azcommerce.com/webapps/maproom/ezones.aspx
- Applicants and any host institutions must accept and adhere to the BioAccel™ Commercialization Program's Terms and Conditions including having BioAccel™ serve as the commercialization agent (i.e. further commercialize the technology related to the BioAccel™ Commercialization Program project).
BioAccel™ does NOT provide support for:
- Basic research
- Non life-science technologies or companies
- Later-stage companies
Being Able to Answer Affirmatively to the Questions Below Increases Likelihood of Support
- Does the proposed project have commercial potential to lead to a marketable product, process or service?
- Is there a strong market need and is there a large market?
- Is the technology novel, unique, and potentially disruptive?
- Is there already a proof concept or can it be developed within the next year, and more optimally, in the next 6 months?
- Have downstream investors conveyed initial interest in technology, but require validation or proof of concept work to be completed?
- Is the work being performed in an Enterprise Zone as described by the IRS, or can a new company be created or relocated to one of these Zones? http://www.azcommerce.com/webapps/maproom/ezones.aspx
- Would it be difficult to obtain traditional financing for this project?
- Are there educational and/or employment opportunities available to minorities or the underemployed/underserved either now or in the future?
